News Release:

Governor Signing SHB 1084

News Release:

The Alliance to Restore Native American Names to holy and sacred sites has just struck a chord in their effort to do just that. May 16th SHB 1084 was signed by Washington State Governor Chris Gregiore. The bill re establishes the WA State Board of Geographic Names of Places, which was abolished in 2010 due to budget constraints. With the Board re established, creates an avenue to take the current effort to restore the Native name to the mountain. The bill will go into effect 90 days from the date signed, Aug 8th.
The Alliance now has a place to take the effort to restore the Aboriginal Indigenous name to the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states, erroneously named after a British Naval Officer whom never set eyes on the majestic mountain, to Ti'Swaq'.

Sacred Places, Sacred Names

This beautiful and sacred land is our Mother. She feeds, nurtures, shelters and teaches, all her children. The elements of Mother Earth form the sacred vessels of our Spirit – our bodies. If we take time to listen to the land, we can feel the voice of our Mother resonate in our hearts, and know her language. This is why we believe in the importance and meaning of Sacred Names.

For thousands of years, native people have held a deep connection with this land. Our spirit and language is imprinted everywhere. The Spirit of this land cannot be paved-over or erased on a map. With the help of good human beings, we can remember and restore the sacred place names of our Mother Earth.

Native Name Restoration Effort Goes to Washington

Washington States Democratic Central Committee supports Native Name

Greetings,

On Tuesday evening, February 15th at 6pm, there will be a Senate hearing on my bill to re establish the Washington State Geographical Board of Names and Places, the first step towards restoring the rightful Native names to sacred and holy sites of the Indigenous Indian People, here in Washington state. I know some of you don't live near here, or for some reason may not be able to attend to give personal testimony to the support of this bill, but I do understand and know that if you've received this email it's not by chance, and that you are like minded thinking people, and support this effort.

I've attached a letter of support from Council of Geographic Names Authorities in the United States to give an example of what it is that I'm wanting from you. For the most part I've traveled this path with bare bones support, and has come the time for me to start calling in my "markers" if you will, to join me on this good red road to healing. If you cannot make the appointment to personally give supportive testimony, then I'm kindly asking for your letter, similar to the one attached, to me by Monday afternoon.

The House Bill sponsored by Rep. John Mc Coy is doing quite nicely, and as of late, skipped past the appropriations committee and on into the Rules committee, bringing us that much closer to the goal.

A reminder as well, February 16th at 10 o'clock, there will be the first Native American Indian Lobby Day Celebration! Will have drumming and singing to celebrate this day of recognition around 1:30pm, please mark your calendar, and share with your friends.

I will look forward to hearing from or seeing you, sooner than later.
Respectfully,

Robert Satiacum

The thought of restoring it’s rightful Indian name to what is now currently known as Mt. Rainier, at first seemed as impossible as landing on the moon, or the United States having a black President, but since it’s inception, has gained momentum as well as a lot of unsuspecting support as well as anticipated support.

At the root of the reason’s at to why  it’s felt the name should be restored, is to bring forth a healing, a healing to millennia of generations of American Indians exterminated, removed and forced to assimilate to the dominate societies way of life.

This website is to provide information about the movement restore the original native name to Mt. Rainier and other sacred sites.
